This November, Earth Elders will be released to audiences around the world, carrying the voices, teachings, and sacred wisdom of Indigenous Elders across lands and generations.
We are excited to announce that after three years of filming, travel, ceremony, and relationship, the documentary has now entered post-production. The film has grown through relationship, trust, co-authorship, and deep listening, with every step guided by consent, respect, reciprocity, and the voices of Original Peoples.

Earth Elders follows Indigenous Elders from across the continents whose lives and teachings embody the prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor. Through their responsibilities to their Peoples and territories, the film shares knowledge shaped over generations through relationship with land, water, spirit, and community. The Elders are living leaders of Traditional Ecological Knowledge, keeping these teachings alive, passing them forward, and helping guide the wider world toward more responsible ways of caring for land, culture, and one another.
Again and again, the Elders have shown us that kinship reaches beyond the human family. Reciprocity is a way of living. Caring for the Earth is part of caring for one another. These are not simply ideas within the film. They are truths we have felt through the relationships formed along the way.
The team is now shaping the documentary in the edit, weaving together the voices, ceremonies, and landscapes entrusted to the film. Planning is also underway for festival screenings, community gatherings, and an Indigenous filmmaker training programme, creating ways for Earth Elders to continue supporting the Elders, their communities, and the living knowledge they carry beyond the film’s release.
Creating Earth Elders has been a profound honor. Every welcome and conversation has carried meaning. The stories within the film belong to living cultures, sacred places, and communities across Mother Earth.
We remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in us to bear witness and share these stories together.
This fall, audiences will be invited into the forests, mountains, ceremonies, and gatherings that have shaped this journey. Our hope is that the wisdom of the Elders will travel with care. May their message of stewardship, kinship, and love for all living beings reach people who are ready to listen. May Earth Elders help us remember our own relationship with Mother Earth.
About Lucy Martens, Film Director
Lucy Martens is an award-winning documentary director and cinematographer whose work has taken her across five continents over more than two decades. Her films and reporting have appeared on BBC Storyville, BBC Three, PBS, ARTE, CNN, National Geographic, VPRO, and other international platforms.
Her work centers on urgent global issues, including food, water, health, education, energy, economic empowerment, and climate. She co-directed The Twelve, a feature documentary following the wisdom and knowledge of twelve Indigenous Elders from around the world. Over the past decade, Lucy has focused especially on supporting Indigenous-led stories and narratives.
