Deep Listening & Consent

We work with the free, prior, and informed consent of Original Peoples who lead the vision for each territory.

The Earth Shield is a global initiative to safeguard 52 of the world’s most vital biocultural territories—living sanctuaries where forests, rivers, species, and spiritual practices are protected together.

Places of ceremony, language, governance, and guardianship.

Why These Territories Matter

  • They're home to thousands of unique plant and animal species

  • They preserve ancestral ways of knowing and being

  • They act as planetary lungs, water towers, and seed banks

  • They are defended at great risk by Indigenous communities on the frontlines of extraction and climate disruption

THE EARTH SHIELD

Protecting Biocultural Territories That Protect Us All

Across the planet, there are living landscapes where biodiversity and cultural wisdom are deeply entwined—places where the Earth still breathes in balance. These are biocultural territories, and they are critical not only to Indigenous Peoples but to the health of our entire planet.

A Living Shield for the Planet

This is not just about conservation. It’s about sacred responsibility—to Earth, to life, and to each other.

Together, these 52 territories form a planetary shield—protecting the web of life from further unraveling and honoring those who’ve protected it for millennia.
